Happy Weekending!

Just a quick pop on in to say hello and to keep my promise to myself that I will be consistent with posting in the hopes one day my writing style returns to what it once was...

Yesterday, I spent a bit of time raking. Yes, I said raking. Probably my least favourite task of yard work but I'm slowly making my way through our yard. I discovered a few critter trails and at least a half a dozen piles of deer scat too. I don't mind critters visiting as long as they don't destroy all of our hard work. They'll even get a pass for the occasional indiscretion of munching on a few of our plants...as long as it's only once in a while though :)
The photo above is taken sitting outside our side doors. It's my some-day dream to have a beautiful covered patio/deck in this spot. It's a little more sheltered than our deck out back and the sun is here from morning to night (when it's not foggy of course ha!). I spent some time sitting here and relaxing and soaking in the rays. A little bit of heaven if I do say so myself.

TODAY: I am so happy to be spending it with my guy. ALL DAY! Best kind of day ever! Happy weekending folks!

Daytime Moon

(taken April 16, 2024 with Canon 80D/Canon 75-300mm)

I couldn't tell you how often I've had my camera in hand for one reason and I spot something unrelated that captures my attention. This particular day was no different. My intention was to make a second attempt to photograph a bird flying to our feeder. I sat for a time not seeing much action, and when the birds did come to the feeder they weren't showing themselves before they flew in. While I was using my lens to see where they were hiding in the trees, I happened to pan over and see the moon. I find it fascinating that on certain times of the year we can see the moon so clearly and decided to take a few shots. On this particular image, I swear I can see a full-on face! This is the resulting image.

TODAY: It's another laundry day. I was planning on putting my first load out on the line but it is WINDY! Let's hope tomorrow is a little calmer because I am getting impatient waiting for fresh line-dried sheets. Today is also the start of Wally's cleanse for an upcoming colonoscopy. I'm most likely more nervous than he is OR at least I hope he isn't as nervous as I am. I'm cooking up a roast chicken dinner so there will be lots of food for him to enjoy over the next few days. I'm also going to venture out into our front drainage ditch and drag up some more of the brush that was left behind last fall when the municipality shredded trees. It's steep and slippery out there so wish me luck!

Happiness is...in the song of a bird.

(photos taken April 15, 2024 with Canon 80D/Canon 75-300mm)

I never thought I would be THAT person. You know, the one who gets a stupid grin on their face watching the birds flit about while singing their song. I always heard the birds as I walked or worked in the yard. I may have even stopped for a moment to watch them on occasion but I'm not sure I really heard the differences in their songs.

Yesterday, as I took Bowen out in the afternoon for a quick stroll I noticed a bird I hadn't seen before near the feeder, and I didn't even have my cell phone to capture it! It had a red ring around its neck and it was soooo pretty. Once we returned I decided to pick up my big-girl camera and see if the adorable little bird was still hanging about. Sadly, it wasn't but there were several, what I think may be, Song Sparrows?

I really don't know much about birds but one thing I learned yesterday is that I could sit for hours watching them come and go. I also learned I have no idea how to actually photograph birds flying around but I certainly plan to figure it out. I purposely am sharing the bird in flight that I totally missed focus on to have as a reminder of where I was the first time I made an attempt to capture the birds. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some great shots in the coming months.

TODAY: Another laundry day, floor cleaning, Pilates, and since the sun is shining, I will get outside enjoying every second working in the yard.

Weekend Roundup: Spring Cleanup Style

(all photos are from my cell phone)

Text Reads:

It’s not hard to tell that it’s spring cleanup time around here. To say the weather has been tricky is an understatement. In fact, this time last year we were out and about in t-shirts and shorts...well, not shorts for all of us but you get the idea :) This year we are still seeing temperatures of 5-7 degrees during the day and very little sun. In the fog & drizzle Saturday morning we installed the new clothesline and hung the bird feeder Dewayne & Kelly gave us before it poured, and we took in a great move, Civil War. We decided to buy a chipper that  Wally put together ASAP. Sunday, it was Bowen’s bath time and putting the new chipper to good use tackling the cleanup from the mess the municipality left last fall while shredding trees. It was sunny & cold to start but the rain couldn‘t say away (ha!). It’s disappointing to say the least when there was zero reason for our trees to be destroyed because there is ample drainage in place at the bottom of the ditch/hill. It even feeds from the other side of the road in front of our neighbours’ property and under both of our driveways into our huge ditch. Always feels good to get work done..especially together!

TODAY: It's a laundry, phone calling, cleaning and catching up kind of day. I'm thinking it's a baked ham kind of day too!

Randomography: good food, good wine, good company

As the weekend creeps upon us I find myself celebrating a couple of small victories.

First up, while I did Pilates yesterday, I suddenly became aware that I am getting ever so closer to the mat while doing tricep pushups. Go me!

Secondly, I prepared meals consistently this week, even when including a date night out of junk food. I have a tendency to have an "all or nothing" attitude when it comes to exercise and nutrition, and I am slowly getting back to the 80/20 mentality I once had. Preparing and eating food that we like plus the clean up afterward is actually becoming an enjoyable experience...especially with my guy beside me :)

Monday we enjoyed BBQ steak, potatoes, grilled onions & mushrooms with a salad (yum!); Tuesday was a herb crusted roasted pork tenderloin with roasted carrots and salad (yum!); Wednesday we had a date night of wings & nachos; Yesterday we made fajitas with leftover steak and pork and freshly made tortillas (yum!); today it will be fish tacos and salad using up the remaining tortillas prepared yesterday. I really would like to continue planning meals this way ensuring nothing gets wasted.

Before we got supper on the go, we started our evening with an attempt to put up the clothesline for the season. After having to trim off the section that was damaged last year we weren't sure there would be enough line but we gave it a good try.

Unfortunately, we were just shy of having enough line so I will make a quick trip to town today for a replacement. I can't wait until the clothesline can be put to good use! I'm not sure there's anything better than crawling into bed with fresh sheets from the line.

As I was rolling out the tortillas for supper, my guy reminded me we have a press for that. Oops! I continued to use my handy-dandy rolling pin and he used the press. I must admit I do prefer the ones rolled out with the rolling pin because they were thinner overall. The shape of the ones he made was definitely better though!

While I was finishing up the prep, my guy went searching for sangria that was made last year. We decided to try a few bags instead of bottles for some of it and have never got around to drinking it. He found that one of the bags was puffed up enough that it looked like it would explode. Now that would make a mess, so we decided it was imperative to release the pressure of the bag AND what's the best way to do that? ...drink it of course. Ha! We had no luck finding the box to put such a bag of wine into so we decided the best we could do was make a wine casserole.

You do what you gotta do, right?

TODAY: We're in for fog and rain for the next several days so today it will be Pilates, errands, cleaning and cooking. I may squeeze in a bit of time learning a few new buttercream flowers too!

Happy weekending folks!

Wednesday Date Night

Halifax Burger Bash begins this week. We initially were planning on seeking out a burger today but for a reason I cannot recall we decided to change the day to yesterday.

I actually put clothes on (other than leggings & sweatshirts) and a bit of makeup, and we landed at Jungle Jim's of all places. Haven't been to this franchise since maybe the early 2000's (ha!) and never have been to the one in Halifax. As we walk in, I say to Him, "does Burger week start today?" Hmmmm....

There's no reference to it anywhere; however, the huge menu does have crazy nightly deals. When the waitress comes we asked her about it and she said Burger Week starts on the 11th. Of course it does! We just looked at each other and shook our heads. Go figure!

I thought He would still get a burger since they all looked pretty darn good but we ended up settling on their Wednesday wing special and nachos. I must say I loved the wings! Crispy coating, just the right heat on the buffalo sauce and drizzled with what they call ranch but it's way better than any ranch I've tasted.

The best accompaniment to wings and nachos is an ice cold beer!

He always can make me laugh. Always...

Afterward we took a stroll through Costco, and as always, we couldn't get out without spending at least $100. Ha! As I paid for our purchases he picked us up the most delicious hot fudge and caramel sundae. So good.

ME+HIM, bellies very full, a few laughs and great conversation. What a great way to end a sunny but cool hump day.

TODAY: It's a quiet one. Work on some photos. Daily pilates. Turning leftovers into something good...fajitas w/ homemade tortillas. That's all I got in me for now :)
